Baby Registry

Baby Registry

Creating a baby registry can bring so many different feelings. After I had my first doctors appointment I started creating my baby registry. I just could not help myself, I was too excited! Then when I found out I was having a little girl I went overboard! My list included almost every item I could think of. I pulled back the reins a little bit and started thinning my list. I started to feel a little anxious thinking about what I would really need? How would I choose the correct items for my baby? Would the items be safe for my baby?

After having my baby, I now feel like I would be able to create an even better baby registry. Because you just don't know, what you don't know. Through experience and using the different items I found what I liked and what I did not like or even use. Everyone has different babies and different needs. I hope my list and insight will help you set off in the right direction on this lively journey.

Since having my baby I have deleted my original baby registry. I'm not sure why I did that, but now I have the opportunity to create a new and improved one. I have created a list with almost all of the great items I mention below. Happy shopping, I'm so excited for you!

Feel free to comment and tell me the things that helped you or even things you would add to this list. I want to help all those first time parents out there. You've got this!

Here is the link to my Amazon Baby Registry List

I chose Amazon as my registry site. I decided on Amazon because, you receive a free welcome box of baby items valued up to $35, it's a universal registry that lets you add any item from any site to your Amazon Registry, there's a 10% completion discount on items left on your registry (Prime members receive 15% off), you will have a full 365 days to return most items purchased from your registry, and there is a 20% off diaper discount. I would highly suggest Amazon as your primary registry.

  • Crib - I found a great convertible crib that converts to a toddler bed, daybed and full size bed. It has a changing table attached to it. There is also a 3 position mattress height adjustment which allows you to lower the mattress as your baby grows.
  • Bassinet - We purchased a Snoo. It was a huge investment and not for everyone, but we enjoyed it.
  • Pack'n'play - We leave this at my parents house so baby has a safe sleeping place when we go over.

  • Owlet Smart Baby Monitor Duo (Smart Sock + Camera) - I was on the fence about getting this bundle, but I am so happy I went with Owlet! I purchased the bundle using my HSA card so that was helpful money wise. I love being able to check on my baby without going into her room and possibly waking her up. If she is crying I can look at the monitor to see if she needs my attention immediately or if I can wait a few minutes and see if she falls asleep. The Smart Sock we use if baby is feeling sick. I don't put it on her every night, because I don't see the need. But, you could put it on baby every night if you wanted to. The sock tracks baby's heart rate and oxygen levels and alerts you if the levels are too low.
  • Trash can - Instead of a diaper gene we just used a small trash can. A trick I learned is putting a car air freshener in the bottom of the can and then put a trash bag in. It helps keep the room smelling fresh.

  • Waterproof changing pad liners - These are amazing! I keep one on my changing mat. When it gets dirty I wash it and then put a fresh one down.
  • Rocking chair - I got a upholstered swivel glider with an ottoman for the nursery. For me a reclining rocking chair is too difficult to push in without waking the baby.
  • Dresser or a night stand
  • Cute baby hangers
  • Over the door shoe organizer - perfect for displaying those cute baby shoes.
  • White noise sound machine - This is something we bought later on and I wish we would have had it from the start!
  • Waterproof crib mattress
  • Blankets - Muslin swaddle blankets are perfect for wrapping those sweet babes up.
  • Pacifiers - I still to this day am trying to get my little one to take a pacifier. I want her to be able to self sooth and pacifiers have been effective in reducing the risk of SIDS. My daughter has a wubbanub pacifier. It is a little stuffed animal with a pacifier attached. I give it to her during naps and at bed time.

  • Diapers - I would suggest about 2 of the newborn sized boxes, 5 of the size 1 boxes, 5 of the size 2 boxes, 5 of the size 3 boxes, and 5 of the size 4 boxes. This is a good start on diapers! For brands I've tried, Pampers, Huggies, and the Amazon Brand. I have liked them all. I usually will go with what is cheapest, since they all work well for my baby. If you purchase them through Amazon and start a subscription you should get 50% off your first order. I would purchase the largest quantity you can for this deal.
  • Wipes - I go through about 6 flip-top packs of 80 Unscented wipes in about two months. For wipe brands I've tried, Pampers, Huggies, and the Amazon Brand. I like the Amazon Brand the best because I like their pop top wipes. But really any of the unscented wipes work for my baby, so I usually will buy whatever is cheapest.
  • Diaper Cream - I love the Aquaphor baby skin care set. It's fragrance free, prevents, soothes and treats diaper rashes. It includes a jar of advanced healing ointment and a tube of diaper rash cream. I put the ointment on my baby's body after the bath to keep her skin smooth. I use the cream if she has had a bowel movement. I also like Desitin for diaper rash cream.
  • Diaper Cream Applicator - This is a must have! We have one by the changing table and one in the bathroom for after the bath. It is a life saver when applying diaper cream. Trust me, you will want one!

Bath Time:

  • Bathtub - I found a great tub that grows with baby. It has three stages: stage 1: newborn (0-3 Months; Up To 15 Lbs); stage 2: infant (3-6 Months; Up To 20 Lbs); stage 3: sitters (6+ Months; Up To 25 Lbs). My 8 month old is still using this tub.
  • Blooming Flower - This is a great insert for a sink bath.
  • Silicone Brush - Our hospital gave us one, but I forgot it at the hospital. So, I purchased one on Amazon. These are great to scrub the cradle cap out of the baby's hair. I add a tiny amount of soap on the brush during bath time and gently scrub my baby's head. It has worked for us.
  • Hooded Bath Towel
  • Washcloths
  • Silicone Shampoo Rinser - It's a silicone water pitcher to rinse baby off in the bathtub.
  • Bath Toy's - As baby gets older it is fun to introduce some toys.
  • Bath Toy Storage - I found a great bucket to store bath toys in.
  • Munchkin White Hot Safety Bath Ducky - Let's you know if baby's bath is too hot.
  • Health & Grooming Kit - These can include a variety of things. Most importantly you want them to have a thermometer, nail clippers, and a nasal aspirator.

Out & About:

  • Carseat - I purchased a travel system that included a carseat and stroller. If I had to do it again I would not choose the same one I purchased. I got a jogging stroller combo and it's a great stroller, but it is too big to fit in my car. I would choose something more compact. Also, if you are planning on having more than one child, something that can accustom two children. That is why I think I would go with something similar to Graco's UNO2DUO travel system. It starts as a single stroller and expands to a double stroller as your family grows.
  • Extra Carseat Base - This is helpful to put in grandparents car, if you have two cars, or for who ever else will be driving baby around frequently. That way you don't have to transfer the base every time.
  • Mirror - Helps you see your little one while driving.
  • Graco DLX 4Ever Carseat - I put my little one in this carseat after she outgrew her infant carseat. This is an awesome carseat! This 4-in-1 car seat gives you 10 years of use: seamlessly transforms from rear-facing harness car seat (4-40 lb), to forward-facing harness car seat (22-65 lb), to highback belt-positioning booster (40-100 lb), to backless belt-positioning booster (40-120 lb).
  • Carseat Cover - Could be a thin multipurpose nursing cover or something for wintertime.
  • Baby Carriers
    • Wrap - I used a wrap from birth to about 4 months. I loved this wrap. I had to watch Youtube videos on how to wrap it, but I loved feeling so close to my cuddly baby. It's also how I got anything done all day, because my little one just wants to be held all day.
    • Ring Sling - I started using at 4 months and will use until she outgrows it. This is easier than the wrap, but less comfortable. I use it for short amounts of time.
    • Front Carrier - I started using at 4 months and will use until she outgrows it. This is perfect for longer wearing sessions.
    • Hiking Backpack - I started using at 6 months and we will use until she outgrows it. Perfect for hiking, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, etc. We love ours!
  • Chariot - We have the Thule Chariot with bike, stroller, and ski attachments. We found it on a for sale site and purchased it for a good price. We love it!

  • Cover - I have two different covers that I like. One is multipurpose and can be used as a carseat cover too. The other one just goes over your head and is more breathable I think.
  • Nipple Cream - I like Lansinoh creams the best
  • Gel Pads
  • Hot and Cold Packs - These are good especially for when you first start nursing.
  • Shirts - Nursing friendly shirts. Button down shirts are helpful.
  • Nursing Bras - I like buying on Amazon, because I find the ones with free returns, that way if they do not fit I can send back without any extra charges.
  • Pump - I received my Lansinoh Breast Pump for free through insurance. Contact your provider and see what they offer.
  • Breast Milk Storage Bags
  • Bottles - I tried every bottle imaginable, but my baby would not take a bottle. I suggest getting a sample pack of bottles so you can try a few different ones out.

  • High Chair - Our high chair was a little more expensive, but so worth it. It is a 6 in 1 convertible high chair. So, no need to buy additional ones as baby grows. We went with the Graco 6 in 1 High Chair.
  • Ezpz Items - I highly suggest Ezpz items. The bowls and plates suction to virtually any surface and your little one wont be able to move them. The utensils are easy for little ones to use. Same goes for the cup.
    • Plate
    • Bowl
    • Spoons
    • Cup
  • Sippy Cups - Since my little one wouldn't take a bottle we implemented a sippy cup starting at 4 months old. We like the Munchkin Miracle 360 Trainer Cup, the Nuby 2-Pack Two-Handle No-Spill Super Spout Grip N' Sip Cups, and the Munchkin Latch Transition Cup.
  • Snack Cups - Easy to store baby's snacks on the go and they wont spill.
  • Mesh Teethers - These are great for when baby is teething you can put cold and/or frozen foods in them. Really, you can put any food in here for baby to eat.
  • Burp Rags - These will mainly be used from birth to 5 months. I still use them for the occasional cleanup.
  • Bibs - I really like the bibs that have backing on them. This will make it so whatever baby is eating, drinking, or spitting up will not soak through their clothing. Also, silicone bibs with a catcher are nice.
  • Organic Baby Food - Here is a link for $5 off Gerber Baby Food

Play Time:

  • Shelving - We purchased a nice bookshelf to store baby's books and toys. I found baskets to go with the bookshelf to store the toys.
  • Books - Board books and soft books are perfect for baby. I'll add a few of our favorites to the Amazon list. The teacher in me could not stop buying all the books! I love reading with my sweet babe! For my baby shower I asked for baby books instead of cards.
  • Rattles
  • Teething Toys
  • Walker
  • Play mat
  • Bouncer
  • Activity Center
  • Bumbo Seat - I found one used on a for sale site at a good price.
  • Swing - Make sure you get one that reclines if you want to supervise baby sleeping in it.
  • Lounger - I would lay my baby in the lounger while I was doing chores. It's perfect to travel with. Remember it is not a safe sleeping place.

  • Checkout my other post on clothing. I love shopping for baby clothes and by far the best place to get new with tag clothes at a great price is ThredUP
  • Forget the snaps, zippers are a must in our house hold.
  • Your baby will most likely be out of 0-3 month clothing before you know it!
