Yumi Baby Food Review
What is Yumi?
Yumi is a baby food delivery service for children ages 4 - 11+ months. Yumi offers new seasonal recipes every week as well as classics that are well loved. You are able to choose a pre-made assortment of meals or you can handpicked meals.
What I like about Yumi is that each meal is organic, synthetic free, never fortified, zero additives, no concentrates, low in sugar, and nutrient-dense. An added bonus, Yumi introduces your child to over 100 superfoods and spices from around the world.
Yumi organic baby food has 5 different stages available. Each takes into account your child’s age and readiness for texture.
Stage 1: Smooth Singles (4-6 months)
Stage 2: Smooth Multi-Ingredient Purees (7+ months)
Stage 3: Textured Multi-Ingredient purees with seeds or grains (9+ months)
Stage 4: Chunky Combos (10+ months)
Stage 5: Finger-foods: Nutrient-dense bites and puffs (11+ months)
Yumi baby food meals are also thoughtfully designed to maximize nutrient absorption through clever pairings, to balance sugar intake with fibrous veggies, and to help little ones adjust to new tastes and textures with familiar and unique ingredients.
When I was pregnant with Maci I decided that I was going to make all of her baby food. I purchase healthy baby cookbooks and we had a blender and puree ready to go. Knowing my baby's food was fresh, organic, and the ingredient list was extremely important to me. I wanted to feed her the best and freshest foods possible. When Maci was 6 months old I bought avocados, some sweet potatoes and I pureed them with some breastmilk. Maci enjoy the new tastes and textures. I did this for about a week. Then with all the pressures of being a new mom with zero sleep, it all became too much.
As I walked the isle of baby food at the grocery store I wanted to cry. I felt like a failure. I did my best to pick baby food that was organic and had good ingredients. And this was okay to do. I was fine, and Maci was fine. But I wish I would have known about Yumi baby food prior to this. That way I could have given Maci the best and freshest baby food possible without me having to grind away in the kitchen.
Maci just turned 1 (Yay!). She enjoys feeding herself and likes different textures, so we decided Yumi Bites would be best for her to try. I wish we would have found Yumi sooner, because I would have loved to start her at stage 1: purees.
I love how Yumi is delivered right to your door. It is so convenient! When our order arrived I did an unboxing with Maci. Because Yumi baby food is so fresh your order will come in a well insulated box and it will have a few ice packs to keep it cool. The Bites are cooked and then flash frozen. I placed them in the freezer as soon as I unpacked them. When Maci was ready to eat I would quickly pop them in the microwave for 30 seconds or if I had a little more time I would heat them up in the oven at 425. The food that needs to be heated up will come with a dark purple lid. The food that is ready to eat will have a light purple lid. The puffs had a light purple lid so those were a perfect, quick snack.
In our order we received Pizza Bites, Cubano Bites, Southwest Bites, Carrot Spinach Millet Bites, Cauliflower Puffs (2), and Beet Puffs (2). Maci enjoyed all of the different flavors and textures, but our standout favorites were; Pizza Bites, Southwest Bites, and both flavors of the puffs. Maci has been teething more recently. She really enjoyed eating the puffs. They have a nice stiff texture for chewing.
Because Yumi is so fresh and a great organic option it is a little pricey. When you calculate the fresh organic produce, the time it would take to make the meals, and your sanity, I think it is worth the money. Here is a break down:
1 Meal a Day: $4.30/meal or $35/week
2 Meals a Day: $4.06/meal or $65.00/week
3 Meals a Day: $3.75/meal $90.00/week
If you want to have your child exposed to over 100 fresh organic super foods then you should give Yumi a try!
