Recipe:
- 1 cup of flour
- 1/4 cup of salt
- 1/2 cup warm water
Optional:
- Food coloring
- 1 teaspoon of coconut oil
During these long winter months I am running out of activities to do with my toddler. We try to get outside as often as we can, but sometimes it’s too cold!
I found this simple play dough recipe while endlessly surfing the web late at night. I added the food coloring and coconut oil option. The food coloring gives it a fun edge and the coconut oil makes it so that it’s not so drying for your hands. It actually kind of moisturizes them.
I made the dough while my little one napped and then we worked with it when she woke up. The first thing she did was taste the dough and that’s okay, because it’s just flour, salt, water, food coloring, and coconut oil. She was not a fan of the taste, but kept trying it periodically. I would redirect her to help me work with the dough.
There are so many ways to work with the dough. We rolled the dough, patted it, pushed it flat, made shapes and letters, and used so many vocabulary words. You can narrate your child’s play. When we worked with the dough I talked about everything we were doing.
I hope you enjoy this simple, fun filled activity! Let me know how it goes.
Happy playing!
